The youth basketball division is part of the PBGYAA, a non-profit organization. Our goals are to teach the game of basketball in a positive environment with an emphasis on teamwork and good sportsmanship.
Our recreation program runs October - January each year. Leagues are set up by grade level, as detailed below.
Training League - 1st and 2nd grade COED:
This is a non-competitive league where the players learn the basics of the game while having fun.
Elementary League - 3rd and 4th graders BOYS and GIRLS DIVISIONS:
Has rules to help control the game and allow the players to improve their game.
Intermediate League - 5th and 6th graders BOYS and GIRLS DIVISIONS:
Some rules to control the competitiveness of the teams
Middle School League - 7th and 8th graders BOYS and GIRLS DIVISIONS
One of our main goals for our basketball board is to create a league that is competitive and fair for all our teams. We have incorporated procedures to accomplish this goal by making all players go through a skills evaluation process (except for training league) and limiting special requests (players & coaches) that would impact the competitiveness of the league. We also feel that players whose skill levels exceed their grade level are better suited to play up against more experienced players and thus may be asked to play up a level. This benefits both the player and league.
Remember this is recreational basketball and our goal is for the girls and boys to have fun in a competitive atmosphere. The more balanced the league usually the more fun the season will be.
Volunteers Needed!
The PBGYAA is an ALL-VOLUNTEER organization. Running the program takes many hours, many people and a great deal of effort to make it successful and financially viable.
We think that teaching girls and boys about the value of competition and teamwork is a valuable life lesson and that they will remember their participation through their whole life. That’s why we volunteer our time. We want it to be the best it can be.
So, please consider putting some time back into the program to compensate for what you and your children gain from the program. Together, we can continue to build the program for ourselves and for others to come. Positions we are currently looking for:
- League Directors
- Coaches – Head & Assistants
- Team Parents
- Picture Takers
- End of Year Party Help
We appreciate your effort, support and participation to make this another successful season.
