Cheer Registration: March 1st 20017 to July 1st 2017

Program Information

Thank you for your interest in Palm Beach Gardens Pop Warner Cheer; welcoming children ages 5-14 with traditional and competitive team options.  The mission statement of Pop Warner Little Scholars is to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a safe and structured environment. Through this active participation, Pop Warner programs teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives.

Registration Information

The 2017 Pop Warner Cheer season will begin on August 1, 2017. The season runs from August 1 until the middle of October for our Tiny Mite (ages 5/6/7) and Mighty Mite (ages 7/8/9) divisions. For the competitive teams, typically comprised of older children, ages 10+ and kids as young as 8, who have experience in cheer or gymnastics, the season can run to the end of November or even the beginning of December.

All cheer teams will start practicing August 1st. Teams may practice up to four nights a week for 2.5 hours each night until football games begin in late August or early September. Once football games begin, the practice schedule may go down to 2 or 3 nights a week for 2 hours each, but the cheerleaders will cheer at Pop Warner football games on Saturdays. Football games are played as far north as Fort Pierce, west to Pahokee, and south to Lake Worth. Approximately half of the football games will be played at the home field in Palm Beach Gardens.

There are typically 8 football games per season and games last approximately 2.5 hours so cheer families must plan for this Saturday time and travel commitment. All teams will compete in a local competition in October. Competitive teams must also plan for up to two additional competitions that require overnight travel to Orlando. The first is held over Thanksgiving weekend. You may be required to travel on Thanksgiving Day. The third competition is approximately 1.5 weeks after Thanksgiving. Be sure you are willing to give up your holiday plans for the Thanksgiving competition. The kids will miss 2 days of school to compete in the third competition, usually in early December.

Registration Fees: It takes approximately $28,000 to fund a single season of Pop Warner cheerleading. Some of that cost is carried by our phenomenal sponsors, but the majority comes from registration fees and fundraising. The registration fee of $200 covers the expense of participating in Pop Warner and also provides the use of a uniform for the season. In addition, cheerleaders will be given a practice shirt, practice shorts, uniform bloomers, and a game bow. **All families must plan to purchase a pair of specific shoes for practice and games. The competitive teams should also plan to purchase competition shoes. Each pair costs $20-$30 from Payless.**

Fundraising: Families will be expected to participate in several fundraisers including coupon book sales, Applebee’s pancake breakfast, one baked sale day and one silent auction basket raffle day. These four fundraising efforts will support the end of season banquet and participant trophies for all teams. Individual teams may choose to do other fundraisers to support travel costs. Over the course of 4 months, families will typically participate in 4-6 fundraising efforts.

Volunteers: This is a volunteer led organization. We have a great group of coaches with a vast amount of cheerleading experience who volunteer countless hours to work on fundamentals, choreography, stunting, dancing and jumping skills. Each team learns cheers for the games and a competition routine to compete against other Pop Warner squads in their division. We are always looking for new coaches who can contribute their time and cheerleading experience to the program as well as Team parents who help keep it all running smoothly! Want to help out in another way. Call Kelly Khachadourian, Cheer President, at 561-301-7043.

Questions: You guessed it… If you have questions, call Kelly Khachadourian, Cheer President, at 561-301-7043. We look forward to having you and your child on one of our Cheer Teams!

Weather Policy

If inclement weather is forecasted for the Palm Beach Gardens area on a practice day, the Cheer President will make a determination by 4pm about whether practice will continue, and if so, where practice will occur.

We are often able to use the Palm Beach Gardens Recreation Center indoor gymnasium located at 4404 Burns Rd, Palm Beach Gardens, FL 33410.

When she makes her determination, the Cheer President will typically communicate with coaches and team parents, who will relay the information to team families.

The coaches are always permitted to cancel or re-schedule practice if needed without the approval of the Cheer President.
